Si is a brilliant sculptor who has just brought some of his work into our garden ! and it shakes you up and spits you out ! and the uncanny thing is, that it just looks so perfect in there ,as if it had always fitted. The forms really echo so sympathetically with our naturalistic style. I can see I might have to kidnap them at the end of the summer !! echoing the very architectural shapes and planes of seedheads and our plant forms they really sing in the garden and dwarf you with their stature.

I am also all agog to see see some of Si’s benches too in the garden ! Inspirational people are just so uplifting !

Frances is a true whirlwind of energy and has just brought her amazing ceramic sculptures in to the garden for the summer !Secreted mostly around the pond side in the garden (although there are a few others who have wandered off to be themselves in a perfect spot !)these wonderful and painstakingly made creations are just stunning ,and set in amonst carefully chosen colours of plants just seem so right and fitting for their place.

Bio :  Francis Doherty’s  work is based on the forms of fruiting bodies, flowers and particularly seedpods. She collects and photographs them, then enlarges them and works from these photos or drawings. Plants and seedpods scaled up can be seen as truly spectacular. Their forms are made up of pure mathematics, nothing about them is random. The role of the seedpod is to be protective and to this end many of them are hard, spiky, enclosed or hairy. They wait for the time when nature dictates that they should release their seed, often in ingenious ways. These forms are often reminiscent of other forms in nature, such as those under the sea.

Frances works with white stoneware, and most of the forms are first thrown and then modelled. The glazes are painted and poured, then high fired to +1260. This makes them suitable for outdoor use.Her glazes are chosen to compliment the form and are often slightly crystalline or iridescent, this makes the pieces glow. The forms are often combined with metal and reclaimed sea defence timber.
