jillstaplesimage1I first met Jill when she came to my garden with her camera and started to take photographs to make these wonderful Japanese paper booklets. Since then she has been many times and taken some incredible images for her own use .

jillstaplesimage6She is now joining us with a small exhibition of her work  for our week of paper related events in our opening week. Jill will be returning next year with more work to be shown in our garden room.

“Since moving to Bolney in the early eighties, I have spent most of my time working in my garden, both gardening and working with photography.  With advancing years this has involved less gardening and more photography.  I have used many different photographic methods, cyanotypes, pinhole, printing on coated material and also have developed my great love of book making.  Last year I discovered the Sussex Prairies Garden, a garden after my own heart.  I love grasses and seed heads and their soft muted colours, but also the wonderful wealth of colours throughout the summer.

jillstaplesimage4The work I am showing here was made on a Canon Powershot G12 and printed on uncoated Japanese Paper, called Shoji.  John Purcell Papers have an incredible stock of all kinds of paper.
